The site needs a major renovation this winter.  I need to figure out how to put Youtube video on each dogs page.. thats late night work.

Reading E A Poe this week  a fun quote
“I have no faith in human perfectibility. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.”

Long time. A lots happened between now and then. But I think the main thing is the wet weather. It started last July and really has not let up 120 plus inches of snow last winter, the wettest June on record and its only half over. The flooding and road damage here in the portage/Baraboo area is unbelievable. I still cant drive to portage without a huge detour. 33 is gone in one spot. We are not to bad on top of the mountain. Our ponds are full again (ponds!! we really are supposed to only have one). The north pond is threating to become a permanent fixture, but who knows what the summer will bring this could be our last rain for a month or two

We could track a cat so it was official (buddy prints on the deck) We were stopped by it and enjoyed a bowl of clam chowder, home made from a can. Some days I could sell all my dogs for a song but yesterday all were wonderful, especially the young ones. I find that as I get deeper into my life with dogs on the mountain I expect different things of them. I have this one hard headed monster that I love to hate. But this dog has taught me so much about myself, I almost feel that this project would have failed with out him/her. He taught me to be happy if a dog just tries to understand, not understand but just tries. On such a wonderful day that is enough, Why? because yesterday she showed me that he figured it out and we can move on. The look on a dogs face when they are happy in the work and the work is right. Happy in their place in the field. And we can move on, on to the next task the next challenge. What a day……

Even a little snow could not dampen my spirits

The big yellow boots thing started with this guy. Freddie Hiedt Of Rural Wisconsin. Farmer in the summer snow maker in the winter.
He is a picture of practicality for working outdoors. Big yellow boots keep your feet warm and dry if your working, they breath through the top so your feet don’t sweat. Or in the winter you can strap the top shut trapping air for insulation. Not bad for 13.99 or as he was telling me when this picture was taken 12.99 on sale in baraboo at F&F.

I have never found a hat I really liked. The blue just doesn’t do it.

We shall miss watching them eat out of the kitchen windows. With the treat of spring and Abe having cleared the pond of the sea monster, Our ducks have arrived from down south. last summer they had a successful hatch and so are back to give it another go. I tried to feed them some of the sheep’s bread but they wanted nothing of it. The pond is bigger than I could imagine with all the snow and rain. The water level will have to go down a bit so they can nest. Funny, they don’t fly away when all those dogs hit the pond for a drink. Well they do give us hope of spring. And will fill in for the Cardinals till there back in the fall.ducks.jpg

He stares at me when ever the Migration scene comes on. When he dreams those feet are going back and forth just like he is trotting south. Can’t really blame him after this winter.hbh1.jpg
Ya folks this is this morning 4-12-2008 inch of snow like 120 zillion something this winter.
